Share your Will with your children now

I love saying, I agree with Warren Buffett! OK, maybe that's a no-brainer—but I truly do.

Buffett recently advised parents to preview their wills with their children, and I couldn’t agree more. Over the years, I’ve seen wonderful families struggle with the loss of a parent, only to let grief fuel conflict over the will’s contents. But I’ve also witnessed the power of transparency: families sitting together to review a will or a summary letter while parents are still alive and available to answer questions.

While talking about death can be emotional, it can also be a profound gift. For children, it’s an opportunity to feel valued and respected. For parents, it’s a chance to ensure their wishes are fully reflected in the legal documents.

One key step? Write a personal letter explaining your intentions and wishes. Share it first with your attorney and planners  to confirm the legal language aligns with your desires. Then, consider sharing it with your loved ones.

Communication is the foundation of trust, love, and family unity. Don’t wait until it’s too late—talk now and create a legacy of understanding.
