Scenes from a Funeral

A good man was buried today

A lot of people thought so, crowding the cathedral

A devout Catholic, he was honored with a High Mass

The celebrant, an archbishop, that’s respect

He was a good family man

As the choir sang ‘Danny Boy” for that was his name

His wife of 63 years became lost in another time and place

Behind the pulpit, one son put an arm around his brother

His daughter, adopted off the streets in Mexico, wept

He was a good businessman

He once operated twelve car dealerships in 4 states

His employees, past and present, filled the pews today

He was a quick read on the human condition

He recognized commitment and integrity  when he saw it

He was a good leader

Education. Healthcare. Community. He walked the talk

He was generous with his time, money, and guidance

A major university has named a walk after him

A small Catholic school has named a building after him

He understood that life can be hard

He knew he was blessed, and he shared his blessings

Oh, Danny Boy, we’ll think of you and smile

He was a good man
