Women Knew

I was stone-cold positive she was going to win

Give me brains over brawn all day every day

Decency over immorality, stability versus insanity

An obvious choice, any guy will tell you that

Men are so cocksure of ourselves

My smarter half, a successful businessperson has been championing women in the professional arena for decades did not share my unbridled dude optimism, not even a teensy-weensy bit

Nor did her coven of battle-tested women business/community leaders

They knew

The older woman at my door asked if I had a voting plan

Yes, to vote on election day for the first woman president

She smiles out of courtesy, “I hope you’re right, I really do”

She knew

Standing behind me on a glorious election day morning, a younger woman with purple hair

looks unsettled, “I wish the line were longer”

Don’t worry, we’re going to win this, says I with mucho manly certitude

“I don’t know, I don't know” says she with fatalistic female certainty

She/Her knew

Women knew the presidential longshot any woman candidate was

Women knew the heavy lift it was for the whitest of women, Hillary

Women knew that men and their women were lining up against Kamala

Women knew to be concerned. Be very concerned

Women knew who we are as a country

Women knew
